Problem for QYPT 2011

A 500ml PET bottle of shampoo contains 2ml of high viscosity shampoo at the bottom corner. Assume the shampoo bottle can be approximated by an elliptical prism with a circular opening of area A on one face of the prism. Assigning algebraic symbols to all constants needed,

a) Find the best method to eject the 2ml of shampoo within 1 minute. The bottle of shampoo happens to be found on a desert island, so no water must be used to dilute it.
(The method chosen must not involve buying a new bottle of shampoo, as there are no convenience shops on the desert island.)

b) Consider the following approach: Repeated application of a force (directed inward) in the middle region of the bottle of shampoo. Investigate the resultant musical effects and compose a symphony that can be played in this manner.

Unfortunately or rather fortunately, Quekadoodledoo found a hole –so big that all the liquid can actually flow out within 10 seconds— at the bottom of the 500ml PET bottle. She merely exerted a bit of force… As a result, the dilemma was solved before the end of 2011! Happy 2012! La Quek!
